Back in the “old days” (pre smart phones) of real estate sales, every agent used to carry a roll of quarters in their car so that they could always have change for the ubiquitous pay phones. That’s so we could call the office to see if we had any messages. Of course the cell phone revolution changed all of that! Now it’s nearly impossible to find a pay phone and if you could find one and did call your office to see if you had messages, the office staff would think that you had finally gone around the bend!
We also used to carry a marble as well. Can you guess why?
The answer to that one is pretty simple. Many times when you go into a house, you get the “feeling” that the floors may be out of kilter. Back then when we thought that floors were tilted we would set the marble on the floor, in what we thought the high point was, and let it go. If it rolled away, we knew the floor had issues!
Today, there is another way to determine if something is level and that is with your smart phone. If you are using an iPhone, simply go to: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ihandy-level-free/id299852753?mt=8 and download the FREE iHandy Level and load it into your phone. Now when you suspect that a floor is not level, just place your phone on the floor and you’ll instantly know. You can also use the phone to check the level of pictures, tables etc.
Set up is easy, just find a level surface (You might want to use an old fashioned spirit level to find a level surface in your home or office) and go through the simple three step calibration process and you will be good to go!
The same developer also makes a version for Android phones and you can find it on the Play Store at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ihandysoft.carpenter.level
So, go see if you are on the straight and level and let us know how it went for you!
