How important is it to you that you be able to connect to the Internet while working away from your home or office? For me, it’s very important to have WiFi, so for the past 6 years or so I have been paying Sprint a monthly fee to be able use their network on a small pocket sized device. For more info, take a look at this article that I wrote about it back in 2009: https://realtytechbytes.com/own-your-own-mobile-wifi-hotspot
My problem with the Sprint device was that I was paying a monthly fee for data that I rarely ever completely used. One month I used more than I had purchased and was hit with an overage charge! Never mind that I had been faithfully paying for data that I never used.
So, I grumbled and paid the bill vowing to look for an alternative. My cell phone offered the ability to use it as a hotspot, but the same conditions apple there too…buy data each month that didn’t roll over.
Finally, about a year ago, I heard of a company that had a different take on the issue. They weren’t actually shipping yet, but they were taking pre-orders. I decided that their offer of 1/3 off the retail price, and the promises that they were making was worth me taking a chance. As is so often the case with me, I forgot that I had sent them about a $100, and so was pleasantly surprised to start getting progress reports telling me about their journey through design, manufacturing, regulatory bodies and finally distribution. It was interesting reading, but where was my device?
Two weeks ago it arrived and I have been putting it through it’s paces ever since. I am very pleased to tell you that I have kicked Sprint to the curb and cancelled that service. I also have stopped paying AT&T for the “privilege” of tethering my phone. The KarmaGo has worked flawlessly.
Here are the details. The KarmaGo is a pocket sized device that weighs a few ounces and literally can slip into your pocket, purse or briefcase. When powered up it connects to the Sprint 4G LTE network and then broadcasts a WiFi signal that has proven to be the equal to any task that I have given it in my tests.
The main difference here is that the data never expires. So, I can buy data (I buy it from KarmaGo, NOT Sprint!) and use it as I wish. When I need more I just login and purchase it…it never expires. Another cool feature is that when the device is on, anyone who can “see” the hotspot can login and use my connection. When someone does that, they get the ability to use 100MB of data download. I also get 100MB of data added to my account! The device effectively walls them off from seeing my use, so the only way that I know that someone has done so is when KarmaGo tells me that they have added 100MB to my account.
As an incentive to spread the news, if you use this link to purchase the device https://yourkarma.com/invite/jerry53484, you will get a $10.00 discount and they will credit my account with $10.00 as well.
You might be curious as to coverage, so go to their coverage page and plug in the zip codes for your home, your office, your farm area, and your vacation spots to see if there is coverage. It looks to me that wherever Sprint has coverage, they do as well.
