Last November California Voters approved Proposition 19, a measure deigned to give Seniors and others Property Tax Portability.
On the surface it appeared to be pretty straight forward, but ever since the election was certified no one was willing to give any definitive advice on what the bill contained, when it became law and many other points.
Until just recently that is!
The California Association of REALTORS® has released a web site that hopes to answer all of the questions about Prop 19. You can find it at https://www.caprop19.org
Once you arrive at the site, spend the one minute and 20 seconds that it will take to watch the video. Doing so will give you a quick overview of what Prop 19 is all about.
Also on that page is a section entitled “The Opportunity Is Now”. The idea here is that as older homeowners move to less expensive areas of the state their homes will become available for sale to young families and first time home buyers. Not said there but implied, if you are a California REALTOR® you might want to get yourself up to speed on Prop 19 so that you can help your clients and prospects take advantage of the benefits in Prop 19, and earn yourself some listing opportunities.
To help you with that, take a look at the Marketing Materials on offer under the Resources tab. There are other useful resources under the FAQS and Get The Facts tabs too.
So, take some time, get up to speed on Prop 19.
As ever, unless you have a law license, you best move when asked to interpret anything about Prop 19 is to refer your client to to a qualified California Real Estate Attorney. If the are asking for tax advice then be sure to refer them to qualified California Real Estate Tax advisor. You get the picture.
By providing them with this information though, you can possibly get them to start thinking about the options that Prop 19 makes available to them. And listing with you should they decide to move!
