I love my iPhone. I love my HP printers. I DON”T love the fact that I can’t print from my phone to any of my printers because they are too old to be equipped with AirPrint.
This article by Apple will tell you what AirPrint is and which printer models have AirPrint built in. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201311
Since the printers work just fine, I can see no reason to spend hundreds of dollars replacing them just to be able to print from my iPhone or iPad.
There are AirPrint servers that I could buy that would allow the phone to print to my existing printers, but I like FREE so I went on a search to find something that would let me use my phone to print things that I found while using the phone.
I discovered handyPrint by Netputting. From their website I learned the following: handyPrint™ v3.1 is a 64bit (core 2 duo or better) Mac OSX application that allow you to print from your iPods, iPads and iPhones on legacy printers that do not support the AirPrint protocol.
This sounded perfect so I downloaded it, installed it and BAM! just like that I could print from my phone to all three of my older HP and Epson Printers!
handyPrint is free to try for 14 days. After that you need to make a donation to get a license to continue using it. So, you have nothing to lose. If it doesn’t work for you, it cost you nothing. If it does work, the donation is $20.00 or less.
The webpage (link is below) has the download link and a full set of instructions on how to use the app on your Mac. I couldn’t find a Windows version or an Android version, sorry about that.
But for those of us using Macs and iPads and iPhones with older printers, this is marvelous tool!
