I’m always thinking about ways to generate business. In our business the process of getting new people that will buy or sell through us is a constant requirement.
The process goes like this:
- Decide who your ideal client is and define them
- Decide how you are going to reach them
- Deliver value and build a relationship
- Be there when they want to buy or sell
- Deliver EXCELLENT service
- Repeat
Of course there is more to it than this, but this is the basic idea.
So, I got to thinking about this on my walk today. I’ve been walking every day since the Covid lockdown in March of last year. During that time I have racked up over 2,500 miles of walking and lost 40 pounds!
But, more important, since I am doing my walking inside the gates of the gated community that I live in, I have met many of my neighbors (and their dogs) and have become a bit of a local landmark!
The thought that bubbled up today as I was walking was simply this, why not carry some market reports with me to hand out when I talk with people?

The weather is changing here in the San Francisco Bay Area and more people are out and about. Why not use this idea to either just walk around your neighborhood and pass these out or go door knocking?
If you go door knocking be sure to observe the social distancing requirements. I’d include a cover letter along these lines of this:
Hi NAME,
I hope you are doing great! As a quick service to my clients, friends, neighbors and family, I provide a quick annual price evaluation of their home. Most people have loved knowing their current value!
Get out, meet your neighbors and possibly pick up some business while getting some exercise in!
