While catching up on some newsletters this week, I found a few real estate-related websites that caught my interest and thought you might like to know about them!
To start with, The New York Times has introduced a calculator that aims to answer the age-old question, “Should I buy or should I rent?”
From their site, we learn this: “To help you answer this question, our calculator, updated in May 2024 to reflect current tax law, takes the most important costs associated with buying or renting and compares the two options. Note that the ‘winning choice’ is the one that makes more financial sense over the long run, not necessarily what you can afford today. And there are plenty of reasons you might want to rent or buy that are not financial — all we can help you with is the numbers.”

The next gem I found will show you whether any county in the US has had property price appreciation since 2019. The Washington Post provides this insight: “Many first-time home buyers are struggling to break into the U.S. housing market as prices continue to rise.”
From their site we learn this: “Since 2019, home prices have surged 54 percent. In the last year, prices increased 5.8 percent — a more steady rise after the volatile years of the early pandemic, according to a Washington Post analysis of home value data from the mortgage technology division of Intercontinental Exchange (ICE). But high interest rates, low inventory, and years of price jumps continue to challenge Americans buying homes.”
“Prices vary widely depending on where you live. Enter your Zip code below to see how the market value of the average home in your area has changed.”
