Lately I’ve been thinking about online/digital safety and privacy. Mostly because this blog was hacked recently and it was being used to host phishing websites!
This caused my hosting provider to suspend my account until I managed to find and remove the malware! It hasn’t been a fun experience and I’m not sure that I am over the hump yet.
So, I‘ve been doing a lot of reading lately and wanted to share an amazing web site that I found!
It’s called the Data Detox Kit and you can find it at: DataDetox.org. Like many resources that are available on the topic they will tell you all the ways that the bad guys can get hold of your info. But, they take it a step further and explain WHY the bad guys want your info, and WHAT they will do with it when it gets found.
That’s pretty cool on it’s own, but then they do a very good job of telling you how to fix the problem And they do it in a step by step fashion that even non-techies can manage.
Here are some of the specific areas that they cover:
Control Your Smart Phone data – 5 steps to increase online privacy – This page will take you step by step through the process on both iPhones and Androids. – https://datadetoxkit.org/en/privacy/essentials
Renovate your Social Media Profile – This one will shock the hell out of you when you see what your social media activities reveal about you and what the consequences of doing so can mean.- https://datadetoxkit.org/en/privacy/profile
DeGoogleize your life – This will not only shock the hell out of you, it will raise the hair on the back of your neck too! – https://datadetoxkit.org/en/privacy/degooglise
There is a lot more on the site, so I’d plan on an afternoon of cleaning up your digital life, but it will surely be worth it!
