Do you use Facebook as a way to prospect for clients? Many agents that I know have used Facebook successfully to stay in touch with their sphere of influence. They do that in a variety of ways, some of which include, posting relevant, timely, engaging, funny and useful things. Many of them also look at what their Facebook “friends” are posting and comment appropriately on what other people are saying.
Another way that I have seen used to stay top of mind with people on Facebook is to wish Happy Birthday to those that are having a birthday. Of course this requires that you login to Facebook EVERY day, locate the birthday people and send them birthday greetings.
Facebook attempts to make this easier by showing you a list of birthdays for the current day and provides a facility that you can use to streamline the postings. But, you still have to login every day to use this feature.
But what if you miss a day? Those people who had birthdays on the day that you didn’t login wont get a birthday greeting from you. Now, I realize that missing some birthdays isn’t a national disaster, but it may cause the person you missed to wonder why you passed them over!
Wouldn’t it be great if there was a way to create birthday greetings in advance, have them post on the birthday person’s wall at a time of your choosing, in a way that looks like you did it yourself and was free?
As it turns out, there is! Go to http://birthdayfb.com/ and sign up! This FREE service will use you Facebook credentials to gather the upcoming birthdays from your friends list and will then let you create custom greetings for each person. When I checked today, I was able to set up greetings all the way to April 30th. (Today is March 28th).
They have some canned greetings that you can use, you can create your own canned greetings if you frequently say the same thing, and you can also create on the fly custom greetings for each person, If there is someone on your list that you DO NOT want to send greetings to, you can hide them from the system.
If you get tired of this, you can easily cancel the program and go back to the old way of doing things. But for me, I’d rather spend some time each month creating nice birthday greetings when I have time to be thoughtful and be secure in the knowledge that I haven’t missed someone because I didn’t login to Facebook one day.
Give it a try! Maybe wishing someone a happy birthday will cause them to remember you and in turn remember that you list and sell real estate!
