Have you ever been looking at your Facebook Newsfeed and see an unfamiliar name? That can happen when friends post things that appear on your Newsfeed as well as theirs. Their friends can make comments. That results in you seeing unfamiliar names.
Wouldn’t it be cool to learn more about those people? Without having to click on their name and go to their profile? Of course it would be!
The service Connect6º allows you to do just that. In order to use it, you have to be using the Chrome browser (available from Google at https://www.google.com/chrome) with the Connect6º extension installed. (Chrome extensions are bits of code that extend the functionality of Chrome) You can get the Connect6º extension at: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search/Connect6
So, what is Connect6º and how does it work? I’ll let them answer that from their FAQ section:
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Connect6°?
Connect6° helps you discover and connect with anyone. Connect6° offers two solutions: Discover is a browser extension that dynamically displays rich contact and professional details about a person, including a picture, title, skills summary, links to social profiles and contact information; Search is a search engine for people that helps you find business prospects and job candidates based on keywords embedded within their social profiles.Connect6° is different in a number of ways. First, we have one of the largest databases of social profiles on the planet, numbering over 550 million and growing. Second, we enable users to search and discover new people either from our search engine (Search) or from Discover, a browser plug-in that dynamically displays contact information about a person as you browse the Web. We also make it super easy to discover new people by just hovering over their name, twitter handle or email address. Finally, we let our customers connect with people by providing the contact details, including the person’s email address and phone number.
Connect6° displays profile information on any web page where there is some type of personal identifier present (e.g., a Twitter handle, email address or social link). This includes the most popular social and professional networking sites, but also includes Google search results, Gmail, HootSuite, and CRM sites such as Salesforce.com. To display the profile information, just hover over the six degree icon and the side bar will automatically appear. NOTE: On some sites, the sidebar will automatically appear when you navigate to a person’s profile (e.g., LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter).
The data that Connect6° collects is gathered from a variety of publicly available sources. The information returned is similar to the types of data you would find on a person if you performed a series of Google searches. What we’ve done that’s unique is to aggregate the information into a powerful, searchable contact database.
Connect6° Discover is a FREE Chrome extension that can be downloaded from the Chrome Store. Connect6° Search is free for customers to perform 5 searches per month. The free version is intended to help get your feet wet and see the power of the solution. You can upgrade to Pro at any time for just $99 per user per month. The Pro version lets you perform an unlimited number of searches and lets you export search results, which include contact details and social links (if available), in a CSV format.
I’ve been playing with it for a few days now and although it’s not perfect, it has given me new insights into people I see on my social sites. I think that YOU could use it to learn more about new and prospective clients, which is always a good thing.
On the flip side, what do other users of Connect6º see when they check you out? Maybe it’s a good time to review your Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter profiles to make sure that they accurately reflect you!
