Now that the holiday season is upon us you’ll probably be taking a ton of pictures to commemorate all of the good times. Gone are the days of carrying your digital camera because most of us already have a very good digital camera with us at all times…our phones!
Considering that the cameras in our phones are designed for snapshots in a variety of lighting conditions we can get great photos for most situations.
But, if you are far from the action as you might be at a game, concert or other situation, the results are not so good. Nor are they very good if you are trying to get pictures of a large group of people or even a house exterior.
The cameras are good at what they were designed to do, but they fall far short of what a good digital camera can do. In order to keep to design constraints (and to keep the price down) the phones come with a lens that offers a good compromise in that it’s great a snapshots, but not for other purposes. That “blind spot” has spawned a large group of after market lens kits. Most of which are too expensive for the casual photographer. Recently I ran across a lens kit while cruising on Amazon looking for a gift for someone and thought that you might want to know about it too.
