The following article first appeared on RealtyTechBytes on February 15th, 2015, so I thought that it was time for a refresh!
One of the ways that you can utilize your social media accounts is to post interesting information about real estate. Doing so on a regular basis helps to position you as a knowledgeable person on real estate topics.
But, you can only post so much about your new listings or your open houses or your closed sales before people start to lose interest. I’m thinking that you get to do that once or twice a quarter at the most!
So, if you can’t be constantly blowing your own horn, what can you do?
As it turns out, you can put the power of major news sources to work for you at no cost! And doing so is perfectly legal! (If you follow my instructions!)
This requires a bit of work on your part in searching out sources of real estate news that would be interesting to the people that follow you. Then you have to post the info that you find to your accounts. You should plan on doing this at least 3 times per week.
I’ve compiled a list of sites that have articles that you can share on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, Pinterest and even on your web site. Here they are in no particular order:
CNN Money – http://money.cnn.com/real_estate/?iid=H_PF_QL
Yahoo Finance – http://finance.yahoo.com/real-estate/
MSN Money – http://www.msn.com/en-us/money/realestate
US News and World Report – http://realestate.usnews.com/
CNBC Realty Check – http://www.cnbc.com/id/10000115
Wall Street Journal – http://www.wsj.com/public/page/news-real-estate-homes.html
Forbes – http://www.forbes.com/real-estate/
Market Watch – http://www.marketwatch.com/real-estate?link=MW_Nav_RE
AllTop – https://alltop.com/homes
Of course there are others sources including your local, state and national real estate associations, but I wanted to give you a good list to get you started.
So here is how you use these sources to find and post useful information to your social sites:
Step 1 – Go to each of these links and look for an article that you think would be interesting to your followers.
Step 2 – Read it! Then determine what you could say by way of an introduction. After all, your readers want to know why YOU think they should spend their time reading the article.
Step 3 – Be sure that you are logged into your social site before going to Step 4.
Step 4 – Look for the social share button on each article. Somewhere on the article page you will find buttons that allow you to share. Click the one that you want to share on. It will open up into a form that already contains all of the links to the article that you are reading, as well as a place for you to add your commentary. There may even be some pictures included. In many cases if the article has multiple pictures you will be able to choose the picture that you want. You may also be able to edit the article headline that gets shared. (HINT: If you are reading this on http://www.RealtyTechBytes.com you’ll see the social sharing buttons at the bottom of the article. Go ahead and share this article if you want!)
Step 5 – Once you hit submit (or share as the case may be) the article gets shared onto your social site.
If you choose the articles that you share with care, and do so several times a week you will start to build a reputation amongst your followers as being someone who is the know about real estate topics … and you won’t be running the risk of alienating people with all that self promotion stuff that every one else is doing!
