So, with all the hype around the metaverse, surely you’re wondering if it’s just the most current Twitter trend-of-the-week, or if it has real staying power. It’s being touted as the next frontier of the internet, but is it really?
Actually, the metaverse isn’t even a new topic. It’s just the speed at which it started making headlines and gaining public attention that’s so staggering and impressive. The term “metaverse” itself is an ever-changing concept, as more and more businesses start to shift gears to include this in their future endeavors.
So, why should you, as a solitary real estate professional, care about the metaverse?
1. The Future of Social Media
Companies all over the world are starting to get in on this trend, even companies such as Nike and McDonald’s are garnering interest around the metaverse. All this money and attention and innovation flooding into one singular concept is powerful.
Clearly, there are people out there – a lot of people – who believe the metaverse is the future of social media. Some even claim the metaverse will entirely change the way we live our lives, not just how we use the internet.
However, how this ends up working is up in the air. While metaverse as a concept has been around for some time, this new iteration is still in its infancy. In fact, we don’t even have an alpha build of any of the concepts just yet. The next few years hold the keys in discovering the true power of the metaverse and all it can do.
2. What the Metaverse Can Do For You
The metaverse doesn’t just promise utility to companies and businesses. It can also make life more interesting and fun, and convenient for you as a general consumer.
Even if video games aren’t your bag, they can be looked to for excellent examples of the metaverse in action. Roblox is a very good example of this. You can play through a library of video games all created by Roblox users, and players can socialize through both the gameplay itself, and using an avatar-based platform somewhat similar to Habbo Hotel – an early social media “game”.
3. Investments
So video games aren’t really your thing, and hanging out in socially driven platforms doesn’t appeal much to you. Well, what about money?
If you’re familiar with NFTs and cryptocurrency, you’ll already know where this is headed. Cryptocurrency is a big draw all over the world, and one of the biggest reasons is that it’s not nationalized. Regardless of where you are in the world, a coin will be worth the same.
You can use the metaverse to buy tokens, coins, and various digital goods – several of which make good investments as the value continues to rise.
So, these three reasons make some pretty compelling arguments to at least investigate the Metaverse, but for a more in depth look at how this may affect our business, spend some time reading this: https://magazine.realtor/technology/feature/article/2022/06/virtual-property-in-the-metaverse
