Now that we all have smart phones (you DO have an iPhone or an Android phone don’t you?) the ability to take pictures at any time has become a way of life. And I’m not just talking about “selfies”! I use my phone’s camera to take pictures of things that I want to have easily and quickly at hand, such as items I want to purchase, interesting things I see on my travels, computer error messages on the screen of my computer and so on.
I also like taking videos of my grandson’s basket ball games, my wife’s concert performances and the wildlife that appears on my street with my phone.
All of this amateur photography has a price though
Every picture and every video takes up space on my phone. This may not be a big deal to you until you go to take a video of some priceless family even (Hint…the kids unwrapping packages on Christmas morning) only to have the phone tell you that there isn’t enough room to store the video! And so you miss the opportunity to catch a memorable moment for posterity.
Of course you can always delete old unwanted pictures from your phone (if you have such pictures) but if they weren’t backed up somewhere like iCloud or on your computer, once deleted they are lost forever.
The new iPhone operating system has a feature installed by default that stores deleted pictures for 30 days, giving you an opportunity to change your mind. But like that Trash can on your computer, these pictures aren’t really deleted, they are just stored in a different location, and they still take up memory. So Deleting pictures doesn’t free up memory until to you delete them from the “Recently Deleted” folder on your iPhone.
So, in order to free up space on your phone to add new items you have to do the following:
- Choose which photos to delete
- Delete them
- Go to Recently Deleted and empty that folder as well
By the time you complete this process the moment you were trying to capture may well have passed. And unless the photos were backed up, they are gone forever!
This is the problem that the “Room for More” app wants to help you solve.
Room for More is a free app for iPhones and Androids. When you install the app and run it, it will show you the contents of your Camera roll and allow to select what you want to move to it’s online storage. It will select 12 photos for you or you can manually select them. Once you have the ones that you want to move, you tap the “Move” button and off they go to your Private, 1 GB storage space on their servers. Once there they can be shared with anyone, viewed on any device, and even downloaded back to your phone!
If you need more than 1 GB of space they do have two paid plans, $99.00 per year for unlimited storage and .15 per GB used per month. There is no contract.
Check out the chart below for a quick comparison of Room for More with with some popular online storage solutions.
If your phone is full of old pictures and videos, I suggest that you jump on this right away and get ready for those priceless holiday photo ops! You can get it here: https://roomformore.com/
