I was helping an agent delete some online accounts recently and several of them proved surprisingly hard to delete.
After some searching around on Google for the answers, I bumped into AccountKiller.
This site has taken it upon themselves to compile a listing of many popular online sites(and some that I never heard of) along with great instructions on how to close the account in question.
I learned that some services do not allow you to delete the account once you create it, which explained some of the trouble that I was having. Apparently we weren’t the only people having that issue because the folks at AccountKiller have a little browser extension that you can install and use before signing up for a new account somewhere. It will tell you how easy it would be to later delete the account. What a great idea!
They have services divided into 3 categories, Whitelist which are services that can be deleted with one or two clicks, Blacklist which are sites that you cannot delete, and Greylist which are sites that fall somewhere in between. You can also search for sites via the convenient search bar in case you can’t readily spot the site you want to delete and you can even suggest sites for them to include. And the whole thing is free!
At any rate, I suggest that you visit the site and book mark it for future reference when you decide that you have finally had enough of Facebook, or Twitter or Skype or whatever!
