My grandsons used to play a game with me called “what if”. They would ask me a series of hypothetical questions that always started with “what if”. Sometimes the questions were non-sensical, but a lot of the time the questions would lead to some real learning opportunities.
Of course, now that they are both teenagers (well the younger one is 12 1/2, but he thinks he’s older) that game fell by the wayside in favor of more important topics like cars, sports, and xBox titles! (The topic of girls can’t be far off!)
I’d like to revisit that game with you. Here are the rules, I’ll ask the questions and you have to answer them. But, since we aren’t actually able to be together while I am asking the questions, the answers are for your benefit only. For today’s game, let’s limit the main topic to LinkedIn, OK? Ready? Here we go?
What if there was a social site that could connect you with influential people, would you do it?
What if that site wanted you to have a complete profile, would you do it?
What if you needed to write a really cool 2 or 3 paragraph Summary, that caused people to want to connect with you, would you do it?
What if the only people that were connected with you were people who could do a transaction with you, or refer you to a transaction, (In other words would you get rid of ALL of the other local REALTORS®, title people, lenders, inspectors, etc) would you do it?
What if you spent an afternoon looking up your past clients and sending connection requests, would you do it?
What if you spent some time accepting or ignoring all of the connections requests in your inbox, would you do it?
What if you spent some time reading and deleting or archiving all of the Messages in your inbox, would you do it?
Finally, what if you spent about 30 minutes three times a week finding, commenting and posting articles about real estate for your connections to read, would you do it?
In case you haven’t figured it out by now, I have just given you a crash course on what to do with your LinkedIn account…what if you actually did all of these things?
